2026 Holiday Shipping Deadlines for Ecommerce Brands: UPS, FedEx and USPS

For delivery before Christmas 2026, ship USPS Ground Advantage by December 17, Priority Mail by December 18 and Priority Mail Express by December 19. FedEx and UPS 2-day services run to December 22 and overnight services to December 23, for delivery by December 24. Ground dates depend on transit days.

Dates checked in November 2026. Carriers can change them, so confirm your service before you promise a date to customers.

Those dates cover a parcel already in the carrier’s hands. Your store needs an earlier cutoff, because an order still has to be picked, packed and scanned first. This guide lists the 2026 deadlines, the days each carrier closes, and how to set a cutoff that holds up in a busy week.

What Are the 2026 Holiday Shipping Deadlines?

Carrier deadlines for 2026 run from December 15 to December 23, and the slowest ground services close first, so check yours by service.

USPS dates come from its 2026 holiday release, FedEx dates from its 2026 last-day-to-ship chart, and UPS dates from its year-end holiday schedule. USPS dates apply to the lower 48 states; the FAQ below covers Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Every carrier’s date also assumes a parcel makes that day’s pickup or drop-off.

Why Does UPS Ground Not Have a Single Date?

UPS Ground has no single last day because transit depends on the route, and UPS warns that some packages will need extra time this season.

UPS says a limited number of Ground and Standard packages will need added transit time from November 16, 2026 to January 8, 2027. Air services shift too. A limited number of 2nd Day Air packages tendered on December 14, 15, 16 or 21, and 3 Day Select packages tendered on December 14 or 15, may take an extra day. UPS also extends delivery times on Next Day Air and other time-definite services from November 27 to January 2, so a 10:30 a.m. commitment can become 3:00 p.m. or end of day.

Look up your busiest routes in the UPS calculate time and cost tool in early December, then build the store cutoff from your slowest route.

Which Days Are Carriers Closed or Running Modified Service?

All three carriers close on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and service thins out on the days around each one.

Date USPS UPS FedEx
Thu, Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving) Closed Closed Closed
Fri, Nov. 27 Open Listed as a holiday period; check hours Modified service
Thu, Dec. 24 Open Listed as a holiday period; check hours Modified service, including Ground pickups
Fri, Dec. 25 Closed Closed Closed
Sat, Dec. 26 Open Check hours Open
Thu, Dec. 31 Open Listed as a holiday period; check hours Modified service, including Ground pickups
Fri, Jan. 1 Closed Closed Closed

The FedEx holiday schedule marks some pickups as early or modified on the days around each holiday, including drop box closures in some areas. Move your last pickup of the day forward on those dates, or the parcel waits until the next open day.

How Early Should an Ecommerce Store Set Its Cutoff?

Set your store cutoff one to two business days before the carrier deadline, so one late pick or missed scan does not cost the order.

Work backward from the carrier date. Take the deadline for each shipping option you sell, subtract your packing time, then subtract a buffer. A brand selling USPS Ground Advantage has a December 17 deadline, so a December 15 store cutoff leaves two days for picking, packing and carrier pickup. Show each cutoff on the product page and at checkout, not only in an email.

Distance matters on ground services, because the deadline moves with transit days. FedEx Ground runs from December 17 at five days in transit to December 23 at one day. A coast-to-coast ground order closes days earlier than a regional one. The FedEx, UPS and USPS delivery times guide shows how zones change transit.

What Should You Do Before Peak to Avoid Missing Deadlines?

Move inventory early, check your box sizes, and decide now what your store promises once each shipping option closes for the season.

  • Send stock early. Warehouses receive heavy volume in November and December. Ask your warehouse or 3PL for its last inbound date, and work back from it.
  • Check your boxes and rates. Large, light gift sets can bill on size. Run them through a dimensional weight calculator, and compare options in our guide to the lowest shipping rates.
  • Plan your last-minute offer. Once ground closes, the only way to keep a Christmas promise is air. Our Next Day Air guide explains that service.
  • Write the after-deadline message. Decide what the site says after December 23, whether that is gift cards or a plain note on delivery dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the last day to ship for Christmas 2026?

It depends on the service. USPS Ground Advantage closes December 17, Priority Mail December 18 and Priority Mail Express December 19. FedEx and UPS overnight services run to December 23 for delivery by December 24.

Are holiday shipping deadlines guaranteed?

No. USPS calls its dates recommended, and FedEx says its holiday dates can change. Treat every date as the latest safe option, and set your store cutoff earlier.

Does FedEx or UPS deliver on Christmas Day?

No regular service. UPS and FedEx are both closed for standard pickup and delivery on December 25, and USPS is closed too. FedEx lists December 26 as open.

What should a store do after the ground deadline passes?

Stop showing a before-Christmas promise on ground rates and offer air services until they close too. After December 23, offer gift cards or a clear note that orders arrive after Christmas.

Do these dates apply to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico?

Not all of them. USPS keeps December 18 for Priority Mail and December 19 for Priority Mail Express, but says Ground Advantage to these areas can take 10 days or more, so check by address.
